Needed a carrier that didn't have any mesh. I originally purchased the Medium. My dog is skinny but long, 12" from base of head to tail, 14" chest girth, 5" wide, and 11" standing tall. She fit, but it was a little snug, so I ordered the Large. We usually travel with the discontinued brown xxs trusty paws quilted bed (15x10); the xs gray is a little wider than the base, but will fit.Zipper sticks a little, just have to go slow. We have a trip coming up, so we'll update after using it. Very excited to find a non-mesh carrier, as my dog destroys it.I do not think this could fit a small adult cat. I am using this to transport two 14week old kittens (currently 10wk, and ~2.4lbs each) on a 2hr flight and for this purpose this will work great. I will update review after using it on the flight.I loved the look of this carrier and the height. The zipper failed us miserably. Our 9 1/2 lb havenese was stowed under the seat in front. She was digging trying to get out and the zipper popped apart! She sat on my lap the rest of the 4 hr flight.
